Pink Stripes, Neon Polka Dots

When the new summer issues of BurdaStyle hit the newsstands, I am usually travelling and far away from my sewing studio. Dreaming about making all the wonderful dresses in fresh issues, I give myself a promise to make at least one or two for the next season. And that was the story and inspiration for this project  – this stripy dress with fitted top and full skirt on the cover of July issue was difficult to forget. 

Когда выходят свежие летние номера моей любимой Бурды с красивейшими летними платьями, я, как правило, нахожусь далеко от дома и моей швейной машинки. Но яркие летние образы и новые идеи остаются в голове, и я обязательно возвращаюсь к одной или двум моделям и шью их к следующему сезону. Так было и с этим платьем - моделью с обложки июльского номера.

Model 111B BurdaStyle 07/2016

As to the fabric, I fell  for these pastel pink stripes with funky neon orange dots last year in a wonderful fabric store @versaillestissus in Versailles. I also bought there some blue chambray for my last year's make - blue chambray dress with white ruffle sleeves. I was planning to sew a summer shirt but when I unfolded the cut at home, I immediately knew it would be a dress. 

Ткань попалась мне в Версале, в замечательном магазинчике @versaillestissus, где я покупала несколько отрезов прошлой весной, включая шамбре на мое голубое платье с белыми рукавами -воланами. Эту ткань я покупала на летнюю рубашку (и мой метраж был всего 1м), но когда я развернула ее дома, то совершенно точно поняла, что это будет платье. 

The fabric on the bolt was 240cm wide and I had taken only 1m for my future project. To squeeze in my dress with full skirt into my cut, I changed the width of the full skirt and the depth of the pleats. And there remained enough of the main fabric to make a belt to go with this dress. 

That Dress!   BurdaStyle 111B 07/2016

Поскольку ширина ткани была 240 см с полосками в ширину, и у меня был всего 1 метр, мне пришлось изменить ширину юбки и глубину складок – сделать их уже. Верх платья продублирован тонким белым хлопковым батистом. 

I also raised the line of the cut-out at the back. For the lining of the top of the dress I chose fine white cotton.

Я также подняла линию декольте на спинке на 2 см и сшила из оставшейся ткани пояс.

I love its summery colors and look, and I find it looks best with coral color shoes and a small bag in bright pink. As to the pattern, I would probably change it slightly if I were to sew this model again. The shoulder straps are placed a bit too far.

Я возможно ещё раз вернусь к этой выкройке, поскольку люблю этот силуэт и люблю топ в форме майки. Но в следующий раз  я скорее всего изменю линию плеча, потому что на мой взгляд бретели расположены довольно широко.

Платье получилось легким и выходным. Больше всего люблю носить его с коралловыми или розовыми туфлями и ярко-розовой маленькой сумкой.

Nautical: a Blouse with a Bow

Spring is the time when blouses become the most valuable and practical pieces of my wardrobe. It is still chilly to take off your cover-ups and there are days that you might even need a warm scarf; but blouses – minimalist or romantic – add that extra flare to your outfit and get you ready to enjoy those first warm and sunny days.

Весной блузки становятся для меня самым излюбленным предметом гардероба. Еще не выйдешь из дома, не захватив с собой пальто, а порой и теплый шарф, но именно блузки – романтичные или напротив, сдержанно-лаконичные – придают весеннюю легкость всему образу.

I am a big fan of bows and loved this blouse the moment I saw it in the magazine (#110 Burda Style 3/2016). My travel destinations inspire me a lot and looking forward to my trip to French Atlantic coast in Brittany for a long weekend, I decided to give this pattern a try. Nautical details, the timelessness and freshness of the seaside tricolor, relaxed silhouettes – I could never get bored with the seaside and its holidays aesthetics. 

Я люблю банты, и поэтому сразу отметила для себя модель этой блузки в журнале (#110 Бурда 3/2016).  Путешествия, прошлые или будущие, всегда вдохновляют на новые проекты. И этой весной, собираясь в поездку на Атлантическое побережье в Бретань,  я решила опробовать эту выкройку. 

Fine cotton shirting with tiniest stripes in blue, red, and white seemed to be a perfect match for this model. The shirt is quite loose and is easy to make as it does not need much fitting or adjusting. Its double back yoke topstitched along the seams give some volume to shoulders. That creates this contemporary slightly oversized and relaxed fit. 

Для этой блузы я выбрала тонкий рубашечный поплин с небольшим количеством эластана. Тонкая синяя, красная и белая полоска сливаются в нежно-голубой цвет и вписываются в морской тренд, который так нравится мне сейчас.

The only detail that might require some patience and experience is concealed button front. My only change to the original model was that instead of elastic bands on the bottoms of the ¾ sleeves, I made narrow cuffs as in the model of a dress based on the same pattern.  

I love this versatile and stylish blouse - it works perfect with different looks – be it at the seaside or in Paris. 

 

В духе последних веяний блуза имеет достаточно свободный силуэт. На рукавах вместо резинки я пришила тонкие манжеты, как на модели платья по этой выкройке. Шьется она быстро и легко.  Единственной деталью, требующей немного терпения и навыка была супатная застежка. 

Блузка получилась универсальной, и будет хорошо смотреться и в других сочетаниях – с узкой юбкой, или с шортами, с широкими брюками, или просто соло на пляж.

Garden-Party Dress

The idea to recreate this set appeared immediately as I saw it in the fresh issue of BurdaStyle for July 2015. The whole collection in breezy light blue colour was just irresistable and it was difficult to decide which of the dresses to begin with. The lovely set in blue batiste with plumetis in the magazine seemed to be an absolute must-have for me, and it was just the matter of finding the fabric. I could see it in white in light emroidered batist, or in any other pastel shade.. It would make a lovely summery outfit for the vacation or garden parties.

Идея воссоздать этот костюм из июльского номера Бурды за 2015 возникла сразу. Вся небесно-голубая серия тогда просто заворожила меня своей легкостью, оставалось только найти ткань и определиться с какой модели из всего понравившегося я начну свою подготовку к лету 2016.

Fucsia Dress with a Bow Belt

Those who follow my sewing projects or know me personally have already noticed how I like bows. And they also know that my wardrobe is quite colorful.

I made this dress two years ago and still love wearing it in the summer.

Flower Power

The creation of this dress was a special experience for me back in 2010 as the fabric that I used for it was the exact original of the dress shown in the February issue of Burdastyle magazine. How could I not fall in love with these dramatic poppies and with the little sheath dress with an open back?
