Maxi Coat in Harris Tweed

Fall is the ultimate season of cover ups - cozy and stylish coats, classy trenches, romantic capes. My coat for this fall is a bow to the timeless English fall classics, to the ever so modern Harris tweed.

Какая осень без пальто, плащей, кейпов? Без незаменимого теплого предмета, который всегда захватываешь с собой с первых свежих сентябрьских прогулок, и который постепенно дополняется шарфами, свитерами, перчатками и сопровождает до самой зимы.

The model and the pattern of the coat is from BurdaStyle 08/2016 (model 116) but my version is longer for a maximum effect and is checked. Originally thinking to make it in soft diagonal wool in mustard color, I opted for this Harris tweed in soft beige hue with a mix of red, green, blue, black and ochre plaids. After making and wearing the coat, I find that this material suits the model very well. It is warm and light, it has some volume and what is especially crucial for this long model – it does not wrinkle.

Polka Dot & Cherries Dress

The idea of this dress appeared a couple of days before my daughter’s 10^th birthday last August. Getting ready for the big day, the celebration would not have been complete without a new dress for my girl. And of course it had to be a dress made by me.

Plaid Seersucker Skirt

When I was making this skirt I did not think it would deserve to be featured in a separate post. Just a simple skirt made out of two gathered panels of fabric on a belt and with two large pockets cut on bias… There would not be much to describe as this type of skirt does not require a pattern and can be finished in a couple of hours… However, it turned out to become my favorite go-to piece this summer, and even though we are officially in autumn now, I thought it is better late than never to share this little basic piece with you.

Эту юбку из клетчатого сирсакера я сшила еще в прошлом году, за пару дней до отпуска. И честно говоря, я не думала, что посвящу ей отдельный пост: это простейшая модель юбки собранной на талии, которая не требует выкройки, с макси-карманами выкроенными по косой. Однако юбка стала любимым предметом летнего гардероба, и хотя даже по европейскому календарю уже официально наступила осень, я все же поделюсь этой несложной и тем не менее интресной моделью.

My Blue Turquoise Summer Dress

Architectural lines, unusual cuts and dramatic volumes in clothing continue to inspire designers and fashionistas around the world this season. Details such as voluminous ruffles, extra panels and mismatching lengths bring that extra spark and modern edge to an outfit.  And for those who like sewing, this trend is an invitation to get creative with the fabric and the color.

This dress has double layer of skirts and the trompe l’oeil effect of an A-line apron skirt with a pencil skirt underneath it. The top part of the dress has a flattering open shoulder line and interesting cut-out back. 

Это платье в журнале (BurdaStyle 07/2015) сразу привлекло меня своими оригинальными идеями. Кажущийся эффект trompe l'oeil верхней юбки-фартука, скрывающей узкую юбку-карандаш, американская пройма и фигурная открытая спинка – при всем количестве деталей здесь явно было над чем задуматься при шитье, но результат обещал быть очень интересным.

Мое платье мне виделось в темном цвете, как в журнале. Но готовясь этой весной к отпуску в греческих Халкидики, я вспомнила об этом красивом габардине сложного цвета переливающегося Эгейского моря.

Hawaiian Shirt

Like with summer dresses for ladies, men can never have too many shirts. Especially if it’s a light and bright short-sleeved shirt for summer.

I often keep the patterns that I used and was happy with hoping that I might remake the same model in a different fabric or in a different color. However, the experience shows that the most successful patterns that I keep coming back to are the patterns for men shirts that I have sewn for my husband.

Having tested a couple of models of summer men shirts before (one with a loose fit, another – with a slim fit), now it is the matter of a few hours to make a new shirt. And no fitting required! And this past incredibly rainy spring I set to make a Hawaiian shirt for our next vacation.

Я часто сохраняю удачные выкройки, надеясь вернуться к понравившейся модели в другой ткани или цвете, но ни одна из них не пользуется таким продолжающимся успехом как выкройки рубашек для мужа.

For the Love of Ruffles: My Blue Chambray Dress.

Ruffles continue to be one the season's main trends this summer. Architectural on dresses, romantic on blouses, excentric on coats ... I love all the possible variations of this garment detail and even the first piece that I made for myself many years ago was a lemon yellow skirt with a ruffle. So it is no wonder I fell for this dress in blue chambray  with white ruffles in July issue of BurdaStyle.

Garden-Party Dress

The idea to recreate this set appeared immediately as I saw it in the fresh issue of BurdaStyle for July 2015. The whole collection in breezy light blue colour was just irresistable and it was difficult to decide which of the dresses to begin with. The lovely set in blue batiste with plumetis in the magazine seemed to be an absolute must-have for me, and it was just the matter of finding the fabric. I could see it in white in light emroidered batist, or in any other pastel shade.. It would make a lovely summery outfit for the vacation or garden parties.

Идея воссоздать этот костюм из июльского номера Бурды за 2015 возникла сразу. Вся небесно-голубая серия тогда просто заворожила меня своей легкостью, оставалось только найти ткань и определиться с какой модели из всего понравившегося я начну свою подготовку к лету 2016.

Red Coat

The winter on the calendar was almost over but weather-wise it did not feel like spring at all. So I decided to make something bright and warm for the remaining cold days of this spring. I came across this thick coat wool in beautiful framboise rouge last fall. The color was difficult to resist to and I bought it with an idea of a coat either for my daughter or for myself in mind. The cut of fabric was only 2,5 m long and I also did not want to spend much time on something elaborate, so I was looking for a minimalist model.

Идея сшить это пальто пришла мне уже в самом конце зимы. Журналы и витрины уже пестрили радужными весенними коллекциями, но в воздухе весной еще совсем не пахло. Не все зимние планы были еще реализованы, и будто предчувствуя, что приход весны затянется, я взялась за очередное пальто. Виделось что-то простое и яркое.

                   

Chemise de Bûcheron, or New Plaids, Old Jeans

There is always a place for checkered fabrics in my heart and in my closet. It does not matter if it is a bold mix of bright colors, or a more timeless classic combination, I always find checks stylish and elegant.

К тканям в клетку я питаю особую слабость и мне всегда особенно трудно пройти мимо интересного клетчатого экземпляра. Есть в этих регулярных упорядоченных линиях рисунка дух свободы, невозмутимости и элегантного бунтарства.

Winter Floral Dress

The sunny spring season with its beautiful pastels, bright technicolor shades and dynamic sport details is around the corner. But while temperatures outside still remain quite low, 

I would like to share with you one of my favorite winter dresses that I wear throughout the winter and into the early spring.

Flying, Sailing, Travelling with Louis Vuitton

When a famous Parisian luxury house holds an exhibition in Paris, I rarely miss the chance. For me, who is so fond of both history and fashion and craftsmanship, it was a special treat. This winter's cultural season, the house of Louis Vuitton offered Parisians and guests of the city to take a tour into the history of the brand and to imagine what it has felt like to fly, sail or travel with their famous suitcases and bags. The exhibition takes place at one of the grandest Parisian spaces - Grand Palais.

So if you are in Paris this winter before the February 21, make sure to step by. The exhibition is free, and it is allowed to take pictures!

Когда в Париже проходит выставка известного модного дома, я стараюсь никогда не упустить такой шанс. Для меня это возможность не только полюбоваться ручной работой мастеров и взглянуть на исторические экземпляры совершившие революцию в мире моды, но и осмыслить нашу историю через предметы, которые окружают нас.

В этот зимнем сезоне модный дом Louis Vuitton сделал прекрасный подарок парижанам и гостям -  возможность полетать, поплавать и прокатиться со знаменитыми чемоданами  марки.
Выставка проходит в Гран Палé, одном из самых изысканных и любимых выставочных комплексов Парижа. К тому же выставка бесплатна, и фотографировать разрешается!
