Tendance Doreé

There are pluses and minuses of having too many patterns in your home workshop. One of the minuses is the difficulty of choice. So when I got an invitation for a carnival party in February, I decided not to seek that ideal pattern of a dress but simply make something from a fresh March issue of BurdaStyle magazine. Their wedding collections are always very festive and usually offer several dressy models. I loved many of their dresses and eventually chose this set of a pencil skirt with a peplum top (models 106 and 109).

Есть плюсы и минусы обладания большой коллекцией выкроек. Явный недостаток – это конечно же их огромный выбор. Получив приглашение на карнавальную вечеринку в феврале, я решила не тратить время на долгие поиски того идеального платья и сшить что-то из свежего мартовского номера. Весенние свадебные коллекции неизменно задают праздничный тон, и я с удовольствием взялась за этот костюм из бюстье с баской и прямой юбки.

I had this silk gold jacquard that I wanted to use for something more casual and this set seemed like an ideal plan – I could wear the skirt and the top separately for that sparkly flash that is so in trend right now. I made an experimental model in cotton to see how the bodice fits. As I had only 5mm wide rigilene for the seams, I used to bands of rigilene for each seam. For my height 174cm I made the bodice and the peplum detail longer by about 1cm.

Костюм шьется в мгновенье ока и для меня это был личный рекорд в 2 дня. Для топа бюстье я сшила макет, чтобы убедиться, что выкройка подходит мне. Поскольку у меня был регилин шириной только 0,5 см, я нашивла по две полоски в каждый шов. На рост 1м74, я опустила линию талии на 1,5, и удлиннила баску на 1 см.

The top has lining in the bodice part. The smooth silk surface of the fabric allowed to make the skirt without any lining. I used about 1m 35cm to make both garments.

Ткань –шелковый двусторонний жаккард швейцарской марки. Для 38 размера я использовала около 1м35см ткани. Топ бюстье  выполнен на подкладе. Шелковистая изнанка материала позволила обойтись без подклада на юбке.

My Watercolor Spring Dress

I love silk chiffon dresses and I already made a few in the past. Working with this noble and fine material is always a special treat for me. So after completing my two fall-winter projects – long coats in heavy and rustic wools – I felt it was time for something light and flowy.

После двух пальто из шерстяных тканей и зимнего периода затишья мне хотелось сшить что-то легкое... Фасон на новое шифоное платье я присматривала уже давно. И эта модель показалась мне новой и достаточно интересной. 

The model of this dress from BurdaStyle 11/2016 (#122B) was simply irresistible in red. But I had this silk chiffon in silvery grey with a vibrant watercolor print. I loved just gazing at that print and thought that this fabric deserved to be framed.  I might reproduce this colorful print on canvas one day but as to this cut fabric, this month it was finally put to good use. 

Платье конечно же смотрится сногсшибательно в красном, но этот серебристо-серый шелковый шифон с акварельными брызгами уже давно просился в дело и его яркая палитра всегда доставляла мне удовольствие при одном взгляде на него.

The model of the dress was somewhat new to me: it was the first time I made raglan shoulder line in a fine material and went for lots of horizontal pleats on the waist line. But it was fun to try new things and the dress turned out exactly how I wanted it to be: light and feminine.

Совершенно новым было для меня попробовать рукав реглан в тонкой ткани и горизонтальную сборку на поясе, но я рада было попробовать на себя и такой фасон. В целом платье получилось таким, каким я его себе представляла.

As to the technical aspects of making the dress, I used the biased satin ribbon instead of facing for its neckline. Instead of zigzag stitching, I finished the hem of the dress with the “baby hem” technique. I find that the fabric was too thin for the narrow zigzag stitch and broad zigzag stitch was too loose and did not look nice. And “baby hem” always looks clean and is ideal for fine fabrics. My dress is 2 cm shorter than the pattern. For size 38 I used about 2 m of fabric. Also, due to the lightness of fabric, I wear the dress with the fond de robe that I made for my Boho Autumn Dress.

В своем варианте вместо обтачки я обработала горловину косой бейкой из сатина в тон платья. Мое платье короче  на 2 сантиметра. Подол платья я обработала «московским швом» вместо предложенной строчки зигзагом. Ткань оказалась слишком тонкой для частого зигзага, а широкий зигзаг смотрится не так хорошо на легких материалах. На платье 38 размера я использовала около 2 метров ткани. Это платье я ношу с нижним платьем-слипом, которое шила в дополнение к своему бохо-платью.

My Blue Turquoise Summer Dress

Architectural lines, unusual cuts and dramatic volumes in clothing continue to inspire designers and fashionistas around the world this season. Details such as voluminous ruffles, extra panels and mismatching lengths bring that extra spark and modern edge to an outfit.  And for those who like sewing, this trend is an invitation to get creative with the fabric and the color.

This dress has double layer of skirts and the trompe l’oeil effect of an A-line apron skirt with a pencil skirt underneath it. The top part of the dress has a flattering open shoulder line and interesting cut-out back. 

Это платье в журнале (BurdaStyle 07/2015) сразу привлекло меня своими оригинальными идеями. Кажущийся эффект trompe l'oeil верхней юбки-фартука, скрывающей узкую юбку-карандаш, американская пройма и фигурная открытая спинка – при всем количестве деталей здесь явно было над чем задуматься при шитье, но результат обещал быть очень интересным.

Мое платье мне виделось в темном цвете, как в журнале. Но готовясь этой весной к отпуску в греческих Халкидики, я вспомнила об этом красивом габардине сложного цвета переливающегося Эгейского моря.
